Since 1961 Originally manufactured by INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER, CUB CADET has been building lawn and garden tractors. They were the first farm equipment company to produce, manufacture, and market their own line of garden tractors. MTD, having purchased CUB CADET in 1985, has been putting the same quality into the machines as INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER began doing 50 years ago. thumds up cheers

Too bad MTD gets lumped in with the likes of murray.......but, i suppose when they came out with their cheap-a$$ed lineup in the late 80's, early 90's, that's what you get.

That cub has always been a helluva tractor! People think MTD just made the 'bubble-looking' cubs. They didn't. They made the old red ones, and the yellow-and white ones right after that! In fact, it was MTD that put a diesel in the cub....NOT IH!

The early MTD built Cub Cadets were still good machines. Up in till about 1995 MTD was still building the Cub Cadet Super Garden tractors. Those were replaced with the 3000 series garden tractors. Which were great machines.
Now that they done away with the 3000 series garden tractors, MTD Cub Cadet does not really have any thing really tough any more. Only time will tell how the new 2000 series machines hold up.

They can still pull a single-bottom plow, so I'm told

I have never been much on tractors although I did own a Cub Cadet 1045 46" cut with the 20 hp single cylinder Kohler Courage and it was a great mower. I started my business with that mower. Sold it and went to there Z-Force with the V twin Kohlers. beer chug
